Have you ever needed to quickly (but safely, of course!) pull over to the side of the road so you could listen, undistracted, to the music coming through the little speakers in your car? Kate Stevens has that kind of voice: it moves effortlessly, like water, from point A to point B in the most indirect, entertaining and unexpected of ways. There is confidence in the playful balance Stevens strikes between precision and abandon: ragged voice breaks turn into lilting falsettos, whispery vibratos lure the ear into intimate, personal, soulspaces.

Since first gracing Calgary stages at a young age, this songwriter has won numerous accolades, awards and nominations but, instead of turning music into a competitive sport, Stevens chose to put her energy into connecting with and mentoring a new wave of young musicians. As a friendly but firm advocate for Calgary's Music Mile, Stevens has a mission to help Calgarians understand that a city without music, musicians or venues will never feel like a community. Stevens has had multiple YYC Music Awards nominations and received RnB Artist of the Year and Solo Artist at the 2020 YYC Music Awards. Miss Stevens debut EP, Handmade Rumours was released in 2017. Creating and spearheading the venture for the Youth Musicians of Music Mile Alliance (YOMOMMA), Stevens has focused on connection, mentorship and performance opportunities for other aspiring youth musicians (11-21). As the founder and artistic director of YOMOMMA, she collaborates with iconic Calgary music institutions such as the Blues Can, National Music Centre, Gravity Espresso and Wine bar. “What started as an organization feels more like a community at this point, I’ve met other like-minded young musicians wanting to better their craft and who I can surely call my best friends,” explains Stevens. 

She represents the Youth Musicians of Music Mile Alliance on the Music Mile Board , a music networking organization focusing on the common goal of advocating for the importance of music in our communities & lives.
